Today, our very own Gordon Blackshaw, Sales Director, attended Confex Trade Show alongside Whitby Seafoods’ James Owen-Taylor, as part of our on-going partnership. Both companies left very pleased after receiving a silver award for the stand.
Confex is a unique wholesale buying group that negotiates in a wider range of product categories than any other buying group and offers over 40 years of trading experience. Confex is a privately-owned company with a reputation built on high levels of service and trading expertise, a company Sykes and many other big names work with closely.
Although the show wasn’t a huge one, there were over 82 stands exhibiting on the day, including many blue ship companies such as Coke, Nestle, Kellogg’s, Tetley’s and Walkers, just to name a few. The trade show has been the first exhibited since Sykes undertook an extensive rebrand of not only their products but all the marketing material likewise. Gordon and Whitby’s stand was complete with J.Sykes & Sons/Whitby banners and Sykes/Whitby Seafood to taste on the day.
Although Sykes attends yearly, a new feature of the Trade Show this year was a Stand Judge, Sally Leaney. Her expertise in design is more often used at shows like the RHS Flower Show, however she adapted her understanding of presentation to our market with ease and came up with creative and in-depth feedback, which was forwarded as constructive feedback for all suppliers after.
Throughout the trade show, the stands were judged on their creativity, information and of course their design and three awards, Gold, Silver and Bronze, were presented afterwards. Here at Sykes we are all very pleased that Gordon and his hard work with Whitby resulted in a silver award, some even may say it is Gordon’s proudest achievement to date.
